Visions of Enlightenment: Understanding the Art of Buddhism is both a Flash experience and accessible to those with text-only browsers and slower (or shall we say more contemplative?) Internet connections. Links to HTML versions of Flash content can be found on this page. The HTML versions will be especially handy for teachers for classroom use. This site draws on the rich Buddhist art collections of the Pacific Asia Museum and there are surprises everywhere—have fun and explore! (PLEASE NOTE that VISIONS OF ENLIGHTENMENT is only available as an online exhibit; only some works may be found on display in the museum galleries).

Teacher Resources
Buddhism and Asian art are underused resources for teachers—and for lifelong learning. The Visions of Enlightenment teaching materials include discussion questions, activities, and suggestions for curriculum connections. These draw on national social sciences frameworks and standards as well as art and literacy—and the diversity and human relations questions addressed by Buddhism.
Glossary
A full glossary of Buddhist-related terms. This glossary can be adapted by teachers as a vocabulary list.

Timeline & Map
PDF versions of the interactive and animated maps showing the life of the Buddha and the spread of Buddhism over the last 2,500 years. [You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print this PDF file (Portable Document Format). You can download a free version of Acrobat here.]
Forum
Ushnisha is the Pacific Asia Museum forum for happenings in Buddhist art in southern California and throughout the world. Feel free to join in with your commentary, but remember the words of the Chinese patriarch Huineng : "In all conditions we should be humble and polite." The Ushnisha is the bump on the Buddha’s head that stands for wisdom and is one of the thirty-two marks of a great man.
